EV Charging (Public)

Case reference FOI2023/00628

Published 9 January 2024

Request

Please could you tell me what percentage of public EV chargers installed in the last 3 years are actually used? i.e. how often are these chargers actually utilized It would be great to know how many have dedicated parking spaces and how often they are actually charging a car. Finally, if you have any information on how much they were to install and how much they are to operate, that would be great.

Response

There are 69 chargers that are funded and installed by Oxford City Council, of which 11 are dedicated car club bays. All are utilized, some more than others (e.g car club dedicated bays tend to have the highest optimization). These were installed via different funding programmes; kerbside chargers and prototype under-pavement gullies were via the Go Ultra Low Oxford funder - an £800K grant to trial different types of chargers in Oxford for the public, taxi and car club use.

Of the chargers available to public use, over 90% have dedicated bays.

Installations commenced in 2017 and additional installations have taken place since.

• An additional 300+ public EV chargers are earmarked for installation in Oxford as part of the 1,300 public chargers to be delivered in Oxfordshire by the end of 2025.
