FOI release

Case reference FOI2025/00352

Received 29 March 2025

Published 29 April 2025

Request

I would like to request information under the Freedom of Information Act (2000). Under the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP) and other initiatives, a number of Afghan individuals and families have been placed into the County of Oxford. Can you please tell me: How many Afghan refugees have been placed currently into the City of Oxford (or within the Oxfordshire City local authority area)? How many Ukrainian refugees are placed currently into the City of Oxford (or within the Oxfordshire City local authority area)?

Response

How many Afghan refugees have been placed currently into the City of Oxford (or within the Oxfordshire City local authority area)?

Since the launch of the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP), in 2021, and subsequent Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS), there have been Afghan households resettled into Oxford City. In total there have been 90 people resettled into Oxford City through these schemes.

How many Ukrainian refugees are placed currently into the City of Oxford (or within the Oxfordshire City local authority area)?

There have been 526 Ukrainian guests who have arrived to be hosted under the 'Homes for Ukraine' scheme in Oxford City since 2022. Of these, 407 are marked as 'Closed - left programme'. This status may be due to various reasons such as returning to Ukraine, relocating to another country, or finding independent accommodation either within or outside Oxford City. We do not have access to any data explaining how many people in Oxford City are under the Ukraine Family Scheme or the Ukrainian Extension Scheme. This is because the council is not involved in the processes of these scheme, as they are managed directly by the UK government.
