Case reference FOI2026/00933

Request

I am conducting research into how cleaning services are structured and managed across UK local authorities, with the aim of building a broader understanding of the different operating models used across the sector. Under the Freedom of Information Act, I would be grateful if you could provide the following information in relation to cleaning services delivered or managed by yourselves: - Approximately how many council-owned, council-operated or otherwise supported sites are currently covered by your cleaning service? - Which department, directorate or team is responsible for the management of these cleaning services? - What is the job title or role of the person with overall responsibility for cleaning operations across these sites? - Please provide a general contact email address for the relevant department or team, where this information is held. - Are cleaning services predominantly delivered by: an in-house council team, an external contractor, individual sites, or a combination of these approaches? If cleaning services are outsourced in whole or in part, please confirm the name of the current service provider or providers. If any of the information requested is already publicly available, I would be grateful if you could direct me to the relevant source.

Response

Response 1. Approximately how many sites are currently covered by the Council’s cleaning service? The Council does not operate a single, centralised cleaning service covering its sites. Each Coun cil-operated site arranges its cleaning locally using internal staff. Consequently, the Council does not hold a single figure for the number of sites covered by a corporate cleaning service. 2. Which department, directorate or team is responsible for managing these cleaning ser vices? There is no central department or team responsible for cleaning services across all sites. Cleaning arrangements are managed separately at each site by the relevant site manager. 3. What is the job title or role of the person with overall responsibility for cleaning opera tions? Responsibility rests with the manager of each individual site. The specific job title varies depending on the site, and there is no single officer with overall responsibility for cleaning operations across all Council sites. 4. Please provide a general contact email address for the relevant department or team. The Council does not hold a single general contact email address for this purpose. Contact details vary between sites because the arrangements are managed locally. 5. How are cleaning services delivered? Cleaning services are delivered in-house by Council staff.
