FOI release

Homelessness staff on-site

Case reference FOI2023/00403

Published 6 November 2023

Request

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I respectfully request the following information: Does your council have homelessness staff on-site at a council building to assess people approaching as homeless? (ie can people who are homeless go to council offices in person and be assessed by a person face-to-face). If so, are the staff full time or part time? How many full time staff are there? If full time, what happens at the weekend? If part time, how many are there and how many days a week are people working in person? If the council has no staff available for in person approaches, how do people approach the council? Thanks for your time.

Response

Does your council have homelessness staff on-site at a council building to assess people approaching as homeless? (ie can people who are homeless go to council offices in person and be assessed by a person face-to-face).

We have a face-to-face offer at the Westgate Library, but this service is by appointment only and we cannot take walk-in or on-the-day appointments. People are also able to approach to the Town Hall and they will then be given advice on how to contact the homelessness service.

If so, are the staff full time or part time? How many full time staff are there?

The staff are part time at the Westgate Library and full time at the Town Hall.

If full time, what happens at the weekend?

Weekends the town Hall is closed, and people can approach us via our Out of Hours service if it is an emergency.

If part time, how many are there and how many days a week are people working in person?

Westgate hours - Tuesday's and Thursday's between 10am and 4pm, there is always a minimum of 2 people on site.

If the council has no staff available for in person approaches, how do people approach the council?

People can approach the council via our telephone service. They can call 01865 249811 to speak to a Customer Service Advisor, who will then send the request through to our Homelessness Prevention Triage Team.
