RAAC concrete in public buildings
Case reference FOI2023/00250
Published 9 January 2024
Request
Under the Freedom of Information Act, I would like to request the following information: Between 1 September 2013 and 1 September 2023, which public buildings within the local authority has the council previously been made aware may contain reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC), and on what date were concerns first raised? Can you provide a list of these buildings and their current use (ie town hall/primary school/public library), in both a written email and spreadsheet format (ideally .xlsx) where possible. A) In which of these buildings have further investigations into RAAC been carried out? B) Which of these buildings are still deemed potentially unsafe?
Response
All property services project folders were investigated for the period specified above. There are no instances of, or requests for, RAAC specific investigations, or any confirmed remedial works to these types of structures processed during that time. Following recent events and publicity around this matter, we have undertaken a series of document reviews, and eliminated the majority of Council properties as potential RAAC sites. A shortlist of 6 community centres has been sent to our Surveying company, and these will be surveyed this month-September.
